EXODUS

Name: The name we use for this book comes from the Greek Septuagint (LXX). It means "going out" or "departure." The Hebrew name for the book is taken from the opening words of the book. It is called "we'elleh shemoth" which means "and these are the names."

Date: During the period of the wandering in the wilderness.

Purpose: Norman Geisler gives three purposes for the book.
